GARDEN seating

My fifth time attending the Heritage Vancouver Garden Tour fundraiser… 15 kind people open their gardens for the good cause of preserving heritage in the city of Vancouver.  Gardens of all sizes on the West Side of Vancouver – from professionally landscaped to the sweat and tears of the homeowner, they all have the passion for the garden and it is a pleasure to view them.

Today, as I toured, I noticed the variety of places to sit throughout the garden – from a single chair next to fragrant lavender or roses, to a seating arrangement for a large group or a pair of lounges next to a fire pit – all entice you to sit and stay awhile in the garden.

Try and catch the 2019 Garden tour next June for a fun day out in our beautiful city.

Arthur Erickson, iconic Vancouver Architect, place a cement bench next to the pond in his private garden.  Unlike most homes that are all about maximizing lots, this modest home is set back from the street and is all about the view from the 1 level home into the garden that has bamboo and tall  hedging on all sides.

Very unique use of industrial found items in the garden from the manhole covers as stepping stones through the garden, to the use of oil drums, ducting, chain and custom welded frame as a water feature…. all enjoyed from a pair of teak lounge chairs.

A famous 1965 Hollingsworth designed home – sits on this beautiful property landscaped by the current owners in the 1990s.  This bench is nestled amongst the Japanese style garden with a view of the koi filled pond and the sound of the waterfall.
