WEST COAST contemporary – Ucluelet

Black Rock Resort is a perfect example of modern West Coast Style.  Located on the rugged Pacific Coast of Vancouver Island, it is near the spectacular Pacific Rim National Park, the fishing village of Ucluelet and the Wild Pacific Trail.

Taking inspiration from the oceanfront landscape and rainforest, the interior and exterior of the resort are seamless with the surroundings.

Lounge

Contemporary fireplace in the lobby with a view through to the lounge.

Hand crafted Wall Art by local artist

Artists on Display.  Locally made nature inspired artwork available for purchase.

Fireplace

Combining modern with the natural is what I love about the space. Modern fireplace and table.  Natural floors and accessories.

bar area mosiac tile wave

A wave inspired bar in the Float Lounge covered in glass mosaics – a reference to the nearby surfing, and of course the crashing waves on the rocks viewed out the window.

entrance artwork

Native artwork inspired by generations of tradition, yet the design is modern and graphic in style – and suits any West Coast interior.  A great focal point here.

Behind Front Dest

This water inspired textured artglass wall located behind the reception desk is a real feature and a great backdrop for the natural beauty found in this carved wood bowl.

Feature Wall

A cement wall (modern) done in a wood grain texture (nature) combined with the modern glass and steel railing in the stairwell is another great backdrop.  Modern chairs and block of wood table completes the vignette.

Restaurant

The coast is known as much for its beautiful beaches as it is for its storm season.  The storm season was an inspiration for the colour palette in Fetch Restaurant. Hints of wave patterns in the carpet and banquette fabric.  I love the dramatic light fixtures over the tables, that are open enough to allow the people dining on the upper level to still see the view.  We had a lovely lunch in Fetch.

Dining Table

Ocean view table inside the restaurant, with another pleasing mix of nature and modern.  I like the subtle surfboard nod in the fabric.  Repetition of wood throughout.

Entrance

The exterior clad in black slate, another natural choice, becomes more contemporary in application by laying vertical planks.  West Coast Style would not be complete without cedar, used beautifully as accent and trim.

Entrance

Keep it simple with such an amazing backdrop.

View to the Wild Coast

Killer Oceanfront View.
