Porches, Patios & Decks ~ Oh My!

Pictures of the 2009 PNE Prize Home Exterior.  Decorating outdoor space has most of the same considerations as indoors… making it functional and beautiful.  As an extension of living space, continuing the feel and flavour from what is happening inside is key.  As a PNE Prize Home decorating sponsor of  the exterior spaces,  I chose all weather powder coated furniture that came with neutral seat cushions.  By adding the custom cushions and table cloth in a bold pattern really adds the personality to the space.  There are so many fantastic outdoor fabrics that are fade and moisture resistant to choose from now.  When choosing your fabrics for outdoors I highly recommend seeing them outside because the natural light is so much stronger you may need to choose a deeper or brighter palette than inside the home to compensate.

With a large 750′ deck, dividing the space into areas for different functions is as important as it is inside.  I arranged a perfect dining area under this pergola, with access to the house through two sets of french doors.  Setting up the separate seating area for lounging as well as the bbq area makes great use of this large deck.

The “conversation furniture sets” as they are called usually come with a loveseat, a pair of chairs and a table, as this furniture did.  I selected two identical sets  and broke them up, putting the two loveseats together on the master bedroom deck, and setting up the 4 chairs on the lower deck.  This made a pleasing arrangement in both places, and served the function of both areas better.  The black metal and woven furniture frames area a nice complement to the exterior finishes of the prize home.

I was selected to decorate the outdoor spaces including the front porch, the rear deck and the master bedroom deck for the 2009 PNE Prize home.  For additional PNE Prize Home photos, please see previous posts.
